March 2018 Coffee Date… Pull up a chair and let’s chat!

Wow, would you look at that, it’s March already!! The months are flying by! Hockey season is almost over and the seaters and boots I was loving in November I’m ready to burn! I am still loving Coffee though ? Because today is the first Saturday of the month it means it’s time again to link up with my friends Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date and to share with you the latest things happening in my life.

If we were having coffee…
I would tell you that my new favourite fast casual restaurant is Freshii.  I received a gift card to go visit and try them out and let me say, I was very impressed! I took my oldest daughter with me after one of her hockey practices last month to help her refuel.

Freshii has 7 different menu categories – bowls, burritos, salads, wraps, soups, smoothies & juices – and each one is full of innovation. Freshii is on a mission to change the way the world eats by making superfoods like kale and quinoa convenient and affordable for every citizen of the world, while continuing to introduce the latest culinary health trends.

Sierra and I choose to make our own meals.  She selected ingredients for her whole grain wrap, and I selected ingredients for my bowl:

I absolutely love that  Freshii is on a green mission. All of the packaging is made from biodegradable corn & potato resin, or is easily recyclable. Freshii also donates one meal from the sale of each WE Menu item. Each meal sold is a meal donated to a child in one of WE’s development communities in Kenya, Ecuador, Ghana or India.

Besides all of the green and WE stuff the food is delicious! Here’s my quinoa bowl, Sierra’s wrap, and fresh fruit smoothie, and our energy balls. So nutritious AND delicious.

You seriously need to enjoy a meal at Freshii!  There are locations all over North America, but the Freshii Junction location at 3300 Bloor St. West is the one I recommend if you ever find yourself in Toronto.

If we were having coffee…
I would tell you that I’ve barely run this year. My plantar fasciitis has been acting up making walking (and running painful). I tried to push through it in January, but by mid February I was limping around like a little old lady. I’ve gone back to the tried and true plantar fasciitis rehab things like:

  • Rolling a frozen water bottle under my foot frequently
  • Stretching my calves
  • Toe raises (as much as I could tolerate)
  • Never walking barefoot (thank goodness for my birkenstocks) in the house!
  • And always wearing my custom orthotics

My hip is now being my running nemesis – the pain as at the top front of my iliac crest so I suspect it’s from a tight IT Band.  I managed to go for a trail run today and the softer ground definitely was kinder to my hip and foot, so perhaps that’s the solution to my woes!

(The picture is blurry because  we were laughing about how I almost fell off the boardwalk trying to take a picture :))

If we were having coffee…
I would tell you that despite the injuries and lack of running I’ve managed to maintain the weight that I lost last year through strength training, in particular my twice a week boot camp class.  I love that class!!  I wanted to reduce my body fat % a bit more for my Punta Cana vacation next month, but to do so I know I need to get more serious about my eating. I’m not really sure I want to do that because I’m enjoying the eat almost everything approach I’ve been on since December, hence the Apple Crisp and Cheesecake recipes that somehow found their way onto the blog recently ?

I would tell you that this month I introduced my middle daughter to skiiing.  Her class was going on a trip to the ski hill in town so I took the day off of work and tagged along.  She learned to ski very quickly – she’s so athletic!  We had a great day together and I can’t wait to ski with her again next winter.

If we were having coffee…
I would tell you that our hockey season is ALMOST over and I couldn’t be happier!  Our last tournament is Easter weekend, then we’ll head into tryouts for next winter.  I honestly cannot tell you how anxious I am for hockey to be over.  I guess I’m not a good Canadian because I hate arenas!  I much prefer being outside at softball.  At least then I can go for walks, explore nature etc.  It’s too cold and dark outside most evenings when we’re at hockey. Ugh!

If we were having coffee…what would you tell me?
