The Best Summer Workout Tank is the All Access Session Tank
Achieving the delicate balance of looking put-together yet comfortable is especially difficult in summer, when the weather threatens to turn any of your favorite workout tanks or sports bras into a sticky, sweaty heat trap. Over time, I’ve gotten a good sense of what I know I’ll like and dislike when I shop for activewear in warmer months, but I was recently surprised and delighted by a workout tank I came across from Bandier’s in-house brand, All Access, which has made me rethink what I consider to be truly comfortably and wear-with-anything activewear.
For me, a truly special sports bra or workout tank has to pass three tests in order to make its way into my daily athleisure rotation: First, I have to like the way the fabric feels on my skin (Is it soft? Is it stretchy? Can I comfortably wear this no matter how miserably hot and sweaty it is outside?). Second, it has to be easy to put on and take off, because nothing is worse than twisting like a pretzel to finagle your way into a strappy sports bra. Finally, and most importantly, it has to provide enough support for whatever activity I have planned that day.
This one checks off all my boxes. I never imagined myself as someone who would actually enjoy wearing a tight-fitting tank top with an built-in sports bra, but this one has won me over. The material is a breathable, thick ribbed knit, so it looks like a standard tank—you could pair it with your everyday clothes and no one would be the wiser. I’ve worn it on hour-long morning runs paired with shorts, as well as with cropped leggings on weekends when I’m doing something a bit less sweaty, like yoga, followed by lunch or grocery shopping afterwards.
But what really sets the Session Tank apart from other workout tanks in its category is how easy it is to slip on and off: There are no awkward criss-crossing straps to navigate and since the bra is not restricting, it’s really simple to peel off. The bra’s padding also stays put, so if you’re in a pinch you don’t have to worry about adjusting the tank for an extra five minutes. It also doesn’t even feel or look like you’re wearing a sports bra underneath it, which is a huge plus for me comfort-wise. What’s more, the padding is removable if you wanted to go without.
Functionally, it’s also the ideal true-to-size, form-fitting style for a range of workouts. It’s secure enough that I can easily get through my yoga class without worrying about my T-shirt flying in my face in “down dog,” but not so suffocatingly tight that I want to rip it off the second I get home.
Although it may be a bit pricey at $78, it’s a total score in my opinion since you could easily end up spending more for bra and top separates. What can I say? I love this tank so much I’m tempted to stock up in multiple shades—something I rarely do. It’s that good.
Available in eight colors and in sizes XS to XXL.
