Non-Profit looks to make yoga available to anyone – WBNG-TV
VESTAL (WBNG) — A fundraiser was held at GSR Crossfit in Vestal to raise money for a new non-profit that hopes to make yoga available to everyone, regardless of circumstance.
“Being the owner of a Yoga Studio we can see that people can’t afford yoga, they just don’t have the means and everyone needs yoga,” said Linda Sambusrky, Executive Director of Breaking Barriers.
It was this concept that inspired Sambursky to create the non-profit.
“It’s like how can we get yoga to people who really need it? create a non profit ding ding ding, we’re gonna provide free or donation based yoga for anyone who needs it, we’re going to create outreach programs for at risk youth,” Sambursky said.
Over 70 people came to the fundraiser to raise money ahead of the November 1 launch.
“We have a lot of people strong people, people who have never done it before people who support the community, we have a wide range young, old,” said Sambursky.
All supporting the idea that the benefits of yoga are something that should be available to anyone, regardless of age, financial struggles or disability.
“I think it’s gonna help people if they’re willing to take that first step to walk through the year to realize how much benefit in their daily life they can get from attending a yoga class,” said Annmarie Faughnan, who attended the fundraiser.
Saturday’s event was far from the only opportunity to help breaking barriers.
“Come donate, support, volunteer, anything is possible when you have community behind you,” Sambusrky said.
