Vitamin D deficiency – the best drink to add to your morning routine to prevent deficiency

Vitamin D is used by the body to keep the muscles, teeth and bones healthy, said the NHS.

It uses the vitamin to regulate the amount of calcium or phosphate in the body.

Not getting enough vitamin D can lead to severe bone deformities, rickets, or even osteomalacia.

You could lower your chances of a vitamin D deficiency by drinking orange juice that’s been fortified with the vitamin.

Ordinarily, orange juice doesn’t contain much vitamin D. But, you can find some orange juice products that have added vitamin D.

The amount of vitamin D they contain varies, but a single cup could contain around a third of your total daily requirement, according to the National Institutes of Health.

It’s one of the best sources of vitamin D outside of supplements and oily fish, it said.

“Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is naturally present in very few foods, added to others, and available as a dietary supplement,” said the National Institutes of Health.

“Without sufficient vitamin D, bones can become thin, brittle, or misshapen.”

The NHS added: “Vitamin D is also found in a small number of foods, including oily fish, red meat, liver, egg yolks and fortified foods.”

Everyone should consider drinking more orange juice that’s with added vitamin D, especially during the winter months.

Between October and early March, we don’t get enough vitamin D from sunlight, due to reduced daylight hours and the seasonal tilt of the Earth.

It’s therefore recommended to boost the amount of vitamin D in your diet.

But, it’s difficult for people to get enough vitamin D from their food alone, so it may be best to take a dietary supplement.

If you do decide to take a daily vitamin D supplement, a 10mcg capsule should be enough.

Don’t take more than 100mcg a day, as it could be harmful, warned the NHS.

You could be at risk of a vitamin D deficiency if you suffer from hair loss.

Other vitamin D deficiency symptoms include a general feeling of weakness, joint pain, and excessive sweating on the head.

You’re more likely to become deficient in vitamin D if you’re over 50 years old.

That’s because the skin doesn’t produce as much vitamin D as people get older.
