Diabetes type 2 – the ‘strange’ superfood that could prevent high blood sugar

All patients should consider swapping a carbohydrate-heavy breakfast for the yoghurt, it added.

But, it’s still important to read the nutritional label on Greek yoghurt before deciding to buy it, the medical website warned. Different brands have different nutritional content.

Similar to Greek yoghurt, patients could benefit by adding more mixed berries to their diet.

Berries contain compounds called anthocyanins, which could increase insulin sensitivity, while lowering fasting blood sugar levels.

Diabetes is a common condition that affects about 3.7 million people in the UK.

Controlling blood sugar levels is crucial, as patients are more at risk of some deadly complications, including heart disease and strokes.
