UFC Sao Paulo Medical Suspensions

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in action last weekend with the UFC Fight Night 137 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1, which took place on Sat., Sept. 22, 2018 inside Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

As with any combat sports event, there was a handful of injuries to report, some worse than others.

Chief among them was the knee injury suffered by Thiago Santos in his winning performance against Eryk Anders (details). “Marreta” was one of five combatants to get slapped with a potential six-month medical suspension from Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA).

There you have it.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
