Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, is headed back to court for a bench trial on Sept. 26, 2019 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to answer for his role in an alleged strip-club incident that ended with charges of misdemeanor battery.
That’s according to a report from MMA Fighting.
Jones, 32, is accused of assaulting a waitress from TD’s Eubanks Showclub, though “Bones” denies any wrongdoing. In fact, promotion president, Dana White, claims to have seen the footage in question and insists “it looks very good for Jon.”
Which is exactly why his accuser was afraid to come forward.
”I mean everyone’s protecting Jon Jones because he’s a celebrity,” she told police (more details on that interaction here).
Until Jones can get this matter resolved, it’s unlikely the promotion will book his next fight. Not that matchmakers are in any hurry, since he’s pretty much cleaned out the 205-pound division and won’t be planning for that Daniel Cormier trilogy after what happened at UFC 241.
