Showtime Has No Time For ‘Funky’ Squabbles

I’m not sure how mixed martial arts (MMA) got to a place where it must now answer to Dillon Danis, but the Bellator big mouth and Conor McGregor ball barnacle wanted Ben Askren to know that Roufusport may have been experiencing another “snake in the grass” situation.

Askren’s longtime teammate, Anthony Pettis, was “happy” to see Jorge Masvidal brutally finish the “Funky” wrestler at UFC 239 back in July, despite the fact that “Showtime” has been sharing the Milwaukee mats with the Olympian for the last several years.

What gives?

“No beef. Wasn’t happy he got knocked out,” Pettis wrote on Instagram (via MMA Junkie). “Jorge is my boy, and I was happy for him. This is the fight game, shit happens. Ben is a monster. He will be back.”

Nothing “fake” about celebrating a friend’s victory.

Masvidal set a UFC record with his violent finish over Askren (see it again here) and left the combat sports world enamored with the rise of “Gamebred.” In fact, Askren had to also draw an explanation from Tyron Woodley, who like Pettis, was getting a little too chummy with Masvidal.

The loss was the first of Askren’s professional career (unless you count this) and Pettis is not wrong when he suggests “Funky” will be back. The former ONE and Bellator champion is currently ranked No. 11 at 170 pounds.
